The bikes range from large singles up to twins and even triples, but all have three things in common, their size, their ability to cover larger distances on tarmac and their potential to carry on when the going gets tough or the tarmac ends. Most manufacturers produce a Big Trail Bike, Street or Megamoto in one form or another, and many were originally based on Desert Racers, inspired by events such as the Paris-Dakar Rally raid. Some examples of Big Trail Bikes are, Honda's XRV 650 &750 (Africa Twin), XL600V & XL650V(Transalp), Yamaha's XT 600 (Tenere), XTZ 660, & XTZ 750 (Super Tenere), Suzuki's DR 650,750, 800 Big & Vstrom, BMW's R800, 1000 1100 1150 & 1200GS, Cagiva's 600, 750 & 900 Elephant, Triumph's Tiger and many more. Streetmoto and Megamoto bikes are a more recent derivative of the big trail bike and include bikes like the Yamaha XT660X, MZ Baghira, KTM Duke & 950SM, Highlander SM, Ducati Multistrada, and many, many more. The site was formed to Share technical knowledge on bikes, put fragmented groups of riders in touch with each other, share "grin factor" & rights of way information on surfaced and unsurfaced roads and create an international data base of events, riding days/weekends & Touring Holidays. It's not necessarily what bike you have, but more where you like to use it that counts.
