Introduction

This page is devoted to showing photos of, and giving a little information about, the rivers Trent and Devon at Newark-on-Trent, England, but it is by no means comprehensive, and will be added to from time to time. It is an adjunct to my main Newark page.

River Trent

The castle and River Trent from near Trent Bridge. Photo 74,678 bytes, taken on 25th December 1999.

Trent Bridge from opposite the castle. The clock tower of the former Nicholson's Ironworks can be seen over the bridge on the left in this 66,747 bytes photo (taken on 25th December 2000).

We see here the castle and Trent Bridge, looking downstream from the lock (photo 85,113 bytes, taken on 25th December 2000).

This photo (46,188 bytes) taken (on 21st February 2001) from close to Water Lane and looking upstream shows Trent Bridge in the distance, a converted malting on the right (north) bank and some new flats on the left.

The new footbridge, photographed on 14th September 2002, not long before it opened. This photo is 15,904 bytes.

This photo (16,593 bytes), also taken on 14th September 2002, shows Newark Marina from across the river. The sugar beet factory can be seen in the distance.

This photo (13,456 bytes), again taken on 14th September 2002, shows another view of the marina and down stream along the river.

River Devon

This photo (31,458 bytes), taken on 13th July 2003, shows the peaceful River Devon where it flows close to the Queen's Sconce.

These two photos (31,348 and 24,937 bytes respectively), taken on 13th July 2003, show the very different views of this river when looking first upstream and then downstream from Hawton Bridge, just outside (and upstream from) Newark.

Here we see Newark's second marina, on the River Devon immediately above its confluence with the arm of the River Trent which flows through Newark. This view (20,465 bytes, taken on 13th July 2003) is from Devon Bridge (where the river is crossed by the main road to Leicester and Nottingham) on the eastern outskirts of the town, looking downstream towards the Trent.
